WEIGHT CRITERIA EXTENDED FOR CABERNET SUPPLIERS
Lower North Island processing partner Cabernet Foods Ltd is now killing to a heavier carcase weight.
Cabernet who have the flexibility to offer supplying farmers, the options of killing in Wellington or the Waikato are now accepting cattle that kill out up to 320kgCW and is effective immediately.
The increase from the original weight of 300kgCW is to open up the pool of cattle eligible for the award winning Hereford Prime programme.
Cabernet currently toll process in Wellington at Taylor Preston with swinging carcases returned to the Wairarapa where the carcase quality measurements are recorded and the carcase broken down. They also kill at Ruakura near Hamilton, which offers flexibility to supplying farmers and members of the NZ Hereford throughout a large part of the North Island.
